9 years ago on 12th March my little brother has lost his battle with Adrenoleukodystrophy (ALD). Our hearts have been left with unfillable void.
I have completed London Marathon in 2021 and the year after I finished Royal Parks Half Marathon. Both events I ran as a ballot participant and I didn’t fundraise at all. It was more of a personal challenge.
When I got into the half marathon again this year, I thought perhaps I can make it just a bit more meaningful than just PB for the finish time. So I thought I’d do fundraising for the charity that helps families battling with ALD and the research about it.
I contacted Alex TLC and got a formal go ahead for the fundraising which is great news. Alex TLC have been really great all the way through my training time and post event. They kept in touch, sent a T shirt to represent them during the race and a lovely ‘Thank you’ email after the event.
I felt really proud of myself for doing this, the fundraiser kept me motivated and focused throughout training and the race itself.
I think small charities like Alex TLC need the fundraising more than any other charity and if anyone out there can make even a small difference, then they should!
I want to thank Marlene for her continuous support and wish the entire Alex TLC charity best of luck!
