We support all leukodystrophies, including the most common type of leukodystrophy called adrenoleukodystrophy (ALD). When talking about ALD you may notice we also often refer to a leukodystrophy called adrenomyeloneuropathy (AMN).
But what is AMN…?
AMN is a rare genetic disorder primarily affecting males and characterized by the accumulation of very long chain fatty acids (VLCFAs) due to mutations in the ABCD1 gene. AMN is a form of adrenoleukodystrophy that affects the spinal cord and body (peripheral nerves), resulting in symptoms like muscle weakness, difficulty walking, and bladder dysfunction.
