A Bone Marrow Transplant (BMT) replaces bone marrow stem cells in people whose bone marrow has been destroyed by large doses of chemotherapy or radiotherapy. This prepares your body for the donor bone marrow. The healthy stem cells are put into your body intravenously (IV), then find their way into your bones to become healthy marrow and start making new red and white blood cells and platelets.
