Pam trekked the Inca Trail and Machu Picchu to raise funds for Alex TLC.
“I had never heard of this condition until November 2023 when I was introduced to a lovely family who have an 11 year old boy called Sonny who suffers from adrenoleukodystrophy (ALD). I was so moved by the way they all took care of him and pulled together as a family, coping with the difficulties they faced on a daily basis that I wanted to put my ambition to trek the Inca Trail to good use by raising money for the charity that supports them and many others who are affected by this condition.
I was blown away by Machu Picchu and was very emotional as it’s something I have wanted to do for a long time.. also the reason I was doing it spurred me on through the hardest and toughest parts which really tested my endurance. I had to remind myself that what I endured is nothing compared to what the young boys who have adrenoleukodystrophy have to endure every day of their lives. I felt very humbled.
We trekked 26 miles of undulating terrain reaching a height of 4200 mtrs above sea level when we went over Dead Woman’s Pass. We trekked for 5 full days and camped in the mountains for 3 nights, it was tough but so worth it.”
